Retro-fitting an existing biogas plant with key Fitec components gives this facility new capacity for waste and revenue.

Purchased by Miller Waste in 2019, Escarpment Renewables –located in the Niagara Region– was once an underperforming anaerobic digestion facility owned by a small municipality.

Determined to improve the facility, the new owners faced the challenge of increasing profitability while being limited by permitting restrictions that prohibited on-site preprocessing and/or depackaging. Fitec equipment provided a perfect solution.

Because they can be integrated into existing facilities, Fitec’s modular components increased Escarpment’s capacity to handle challenging feedstocks, improving the function and efficiency of the entire system. A robust agitation system was implemented into the in-ground receiving tanks. Existing digester tanks were retrofitted with a Plastics Skimming System to remove all floating contaminants. A complete Pasteurizing System was added to meet regulatory requirements, and as an added benefit, served to control digester temperature, lowering digester operation costs.

Fitec was able to transform an underperforming agricultural facility into a site that can now process biopulp produced at facilities like Davidson Environmental. They are now able to take over 40,000 tonnes of organic source separated organics. Escarpment Renewables is now more efficient and capable of handling challenging waste streams, generating more profit.
